“Minions:” (PG) In this spin-off from the worldwide smash franchise “Despicable Me,” the personable yellow servants of evil fall into a deep depression after all the world’s mega-villains have retired, leaving them nothing to do.

“Self/less:” (PG-13) Ben Kingsley stars as a billionaire dying from cancer who undergoes a radical procedure to transplant his consciousness into the body of a younger, healthy man (Ryan Reynolds). But just where did that new host body come from?

“Amy:” (R) Documentary filmmaker Asif Kapadia (Senna) uses previously unreleased footage and musical tracks to recount the work and tragically short life of Amy Winehouse, who died from alcohol poisoning at the age of 27. Playing at the Nickelodeon theatre.

“The Gallows:” (PG-13) Another found-footage horror film, this one following a group of doomed teenagers who sneak into their high school auditorium to re-enact a drama club production that killed one of their fellow students 20 years earlier. Because, sure, that sounds like an excellent idea.

“Roar” (PG) It’s billed as “the most dangerous movie ever made.” A Hollywood family (that includes actress Melanie Griffith in her teens) decided to make a family film about living among the wildlife in Africa. The catch? The director used real lions, tigers and other creatures, starring with his real-life family. More than 70 people on set were injured. The movie made in 1981 wasn’t finished – until now.

Opening July 17: “Trainwreck” starring Amy Schumer; “Ant-Man” starring Paul Rudd
