Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band in Five Points
Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band will headline Five After Five from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 23. The event is part of a free, outdoor local concert series hosted at the fountain in Five Points. Come cut loose with this funk band, which prides itself on getting the audience to dance and have a good time. The band, which formed in Boone, N.C., in 2002, includes Al Al Ingram on bass, Mary Frances on keyboards, John Paul Miller on guitar, Derrick Johnson on trombone and Lee Allen on drums. The members share singing duties. Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band just released its fourth album, “Funk Life,” citing James Brown and Aretha Franklin as influences.

10 Years, rockers from Nashville, Tenn., describe themselves as heavy, post-grunge songsmiths. Most listeners will recognize the group’s 2005 breakthrough single “Wasteland,” which topped Billboard’s Modern Rock chart in 2006. 10 Years will play a handful of summer shows on the East Coast before going on tour with Breaking Benjamin this fall.
