Get your bowling shoes on for fundraiser
The folks at United Cerebral Palsy of South Carolina are trying out a new fundraiser on Thursday. They can’t predict the turnout they’ll have, but they know one group who will have a blast – their clients.
“Bowling is a popular activity with some of the individuals we serve at United Cerebral Palsy of South Carolina,” said Alanna Layton, development coordinator for UCPSC. “I think we had about a dozen of them who were a part of the Special Olympics bowling team last year and some of them brought home medals from the competition last October. In fact, one of them bowled a 169 and took home a gold medal.”
The Bowling with UCPSC event will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Anchor Lanes in Irmo. In addition to bowling, the agency will hold a raffle for family fun packs from Anchor Lanes, and do a 50-50 raffle. All proceeds from the event will benefit the programs and services UCPSC provides to individuals who have a variety of life-long developmental and intellectual disabilities, including cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, spina bifida, autism, and traumatic brain injuries.
“This event is a way for the individuals to be out in the community and showcase something they love to do and are very good at doing,” Layton said. “The mission of UCP of South Carolina is to positively support and impact the achievement of a ‘Life Without Limits’ for people with disabilities. Through bowling, they are able to demonstrate that there are no limits to what they can accomplish.”
Tickets are $6 for people with special needs and children under 12, and $12 per person for ages 12 and older. Tickets include three games of bowling and a shoe rental. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ucpsc.org/events or at the door (be sure to mention you are there to support UCPSC).
Anchor Lanes is located at 1057 Lake Murray Blvd. in Irmo.
