Multiples of the Midlands puts on annual sale for kids
On Saturday, Multiples of the Midlands, a support group for parents and caregivers of twins, triplets and other multiples, will hold its annual M.O.M. Sale of gently used clothing, equipment, furniture and other items.
“We’ll have lots of items just for multiples, like double strollers, as well as items for any household with small children,” said club member Talyse Burkett.
The club got its start about 35 years ago as the Greater Columbia Area Mothers of Twins Club. Burkett said the recent name change was to let potential members know that the club is for anyone who has or cares for multiples.
Twins have garnered special attention for eons; here are a few interesting facts about them.
1. The word “twin” probably comes from the Old English prefix twi-, which means two.
2. To increase the chances of having twins, load up on dairy products when you start to try to get pregnant.
3. Although identical twins share almost the same DNA, they have different fingerprints.
4. Twins physically interact with each other before they’re born.
5. Twins really do create their own language.
6. Mothers of twins live longer than mothers of singletons.
The M.O.M. sale will be held at Brookland Baptist Church’s Health and Wellness Center, 1066 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia, from 7am until noon. The sale is cash only; no bills over $50 will be accepted.
