Great American Whiskey Fair set for Sept. 10, plus other foodie events

The State

This year’s Great American Whiskey Fair is bigger and better than ever, with more than 100 distilleries and bottlers representing over 500 whiskeys, bourbons and ryes from Kentucky, Tennessee, Colorado, South Carolina and Utah.

The event, in its third year, is 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10 at 701 Whaley.

New this year is an exhibition space for whiskeys from around the world so attendees can sample from Scotland, Ireland, Canada and Japan while chatting with owners, master distillers and blending masters.

LowCo BBQ and Bourbon, Columbia’s premiere whiskey and cocktail bar, will present a barbecue buffet and signature cocktails. Master mixologists will compete in the Great American Whiskey Cocktail Challenge to win the Champion’s Trophy, gift basket and $500 grand prize.

Tickets are $75 per person. VIP tickets are $125 per person and include early entry, T-shirt, goody bag, complimentary cigar and a chance to win a private bourbon tasting for 10. Tickets must be purchased in advance at eventbrite.com; no sales at the door.
