Music in the Midlands: Slightly Stoopid, Ralph Stanley II
Slightly Stoopid
Southern California band Slightly Stoopid brings its reggae-rock blend of mostly laid-back tunes to the Music Farm on Thursday, Nov. 5. Founding members Kyle McDonald and Miles Doughty started the band in 1995 while in high school. They were discovered that same year by the late Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell and signed to his record label. Twenty years and eight studio albums later, Slightly Stoopid is going back to its roots on its newest effort, “Meanwhile … Back at the Lab.” Several of the group’s new songs mine the band’s punk rock roots. One song, “The Prophet,” dates to when Doughty was 16. The song’s music video features old clips of Doughty and Nowell jamming. Roots-reggae band Stick Figure will open the Music Farm show.
