How I Go Columbia: Jamie Scott

Entrepreneur Jamie Scott launched Jamie Scott Fitness in 2005 after finishing his college football career at the University of South Carolina and S.C. State in 2003. Scott has a bachelor’s from USC and a master’s of education and education specialist degrees from S.C. State.

Through Jamie Scott Fitness, he operates a boutique gym in the Cross Hill Market, SWEAT – an indoor cycling studio on Lady Street in downtown Columbia – and, most recently, Yoga Flow Studios, which opened mid-November on Millwood Avenue. In January, Scott plans to open another SWEAT location in Charlotte, just in time to help participants meet those New Year’s resolutions.

EAT: I love local restaurants in Columbia and very seldom do I eat at chains. My top five restaurants are Moe’s (Italian) Grapevine, Basil (Thai), The Oak Table, Devine Foods and Baan Sawan (Thai). There’s nothing better than eating dinner with friends – I could literally do that every night.

DRINK: I absolutely love Southern Squeeze and Good Life Cafe – they have the best drinks in town.

PLAY: When it’s time to play, I love Soda City (Market) and First Thursdays. I love meeting and mingling with people from all walks of life. The sense of community has really grown in Columbia in the past 10 months, and I cannot wait to watch our community transform as the downtown population (continues to grow).

SEE: The Nickelodeon Theatre is awesome. The Nick offers a wide variety of films that culturally feed the citizens of Columbia. If you haven’t checked it out, you’re really missing the show. I also love seeing all new buildings, new business coming to Columbia and envisioning how this city will be different in the next five to 10 years at the current growth rate.

LISTEN: There’s nothing better in the universe than a live acoustic guitar playing in our newest Yoga Flow Studio on Millwood Avenue. When I’m not in downward-facing dog listening to a guitar, I love listening to our local radio station 107.5 with Tommy Moody, Heath Cline and Jay Philips.
