What’s Good Here? Where to dine Christmas Day

According to Denny’s corporate office in Spartanburg, Christmas Day is the restaurant chain’s busiest day of the year, bringing in nearly 1.5 million diners to the eatery’s 1,600-plus U.S. locations.

While many area restaurants are closed Christmas Day, there are a few that will open their doors to welcome the post-Christmas-morning weary. Here is a sampling:

The British Bulldog Pub

The British Bulldog off Harbison Boulevard has been open on Christmas Day every year since it opened five years ago.

“We’ve done a good bit of business on Christmas Day,” said manager Steven Kendricks. “We find that by the afternoon, folks have been in the house all day and around their family all day, and they just want to get out a little bit.”

Diners will be able to enjoy most of the usuals on the menu, including fish and chips and the ploughman’s platter, as well as chicken wings and burgers.

Columbo’s Italian Eatery

Columbo’s offers an extensive – and upscale – dining option on Christmas Day that includes prime rib, glazed ham, chilled seafood, appetizers, traditional sides, salads, desserts and more. Reservations are required. The restaurant offers six seatings every half-hour, starting at 11 a.m. The feast is $34 per adult ($27 for active military and seniors 65 and older); $15 for kids ages 5-10; free for kids younger than 5.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House

Ruth’s Chris will offer its full dinner menu – one that includes the upscale restaurant’s lobster bisque, steaks and chops, and shrimp and grits, as well as sides such as sweet potato casserole, creamed spinach and sautéed mushrooms.

Ryan’s

Ryan’s will offer its usual all-American buffet midday on Christmas Day, and some locations will offer special holiday menu additions.

And more

Other restaurants open Christmas Day – and every day of the year – include Waffle House, IHOP and, of course, Denny’s.
