‘Remembering Columbia’ lecture series returns
The lecture series that explores 150 years of Columbia’s history returns Tuesday.
The second installment of the four-part “Remembering Columbia” lecture series and book signings, led by Historic Columbia director of cultural resources John Sherrer, delves into Columbia’s past with a collection of 164 historic images taken in the city from the 1820s through the late 1970s.
Sherrer, a Columbia native who has worked for Historic Columbia since 1996, will discuss new material from his book by the same name.
“With ‘Remembering Columbia,’ folks will see their contemporary city through the lenses of different people, events, and places,” Sherrer said in a press release. “This series is a journey into the past and an opportunity for participants to discover how they, too, may become historical detectives.”
The Tuesday lecture is 6 p.m. There also will be lectures on Jan. 12, Jan. 19 and Jan. 26.
Single Lecture: $10. Price for full series: $35 general public, $30 Historic Columbia members and students, $20 teacher members. All lectures take place at the Robert Mills Carriage House, 1616 Blanding St. The book is $26.99. www.historiccolumbia.org/events
