How I Go Columbia: Lauren Truslow
After University of South Carolina graduate and Chattanooga, Tenn., native Lauren Truslow had her first daughter, she started looking for ways to strengthen her body.
After teaching many different kinds of fitness classes at a variety of gyms, Truslow discovered barre3, a fitness center with routines rooted in three fitness disciplines – ballet barre, Pilates and yoga. Truslow was so impressed with the concept that she opened her own barre3 studio at 3000 Rosewood Drive in October 2014.
This month, Truslow and her staff are helping new and current members keep their New Year’s resolutions. Lauren and her husband, Neal, live in Columbia with their three daughters – Peyton, Harper and Emma.
EAT: I love to grab lunch with my girlfriends at Gourmet Shop. The spinach salad with grilled chicken is my go-to, and the pesto pasta is always perfect. Five Points has been a part of my life since I was a student at USC, and I love how the outside seating at The Gourmet Shop lets me soak up some South Carolina sun. When my husband Neal and I have a date night, we head to Motor Supply in the Vista. We love that the menu is always different, highlights local meats, cheeses and produce – the intimate setting is always fabulous.
PLAY: With a toddler and twins, my life is busy and full of scheduled chaos, so when I get the time for a little relaxation, I love to head to Occo (Skin Studio) to pamper myself. A little mani-pedi or massage makes me feel like a new woman. No matter the season, you will find me and my husband cheering on the Gamecock football, basketball or baseball teams. We are huge fans, and we love to support the university in any way we can.
DRINK: I love to have a glass of something bubbly at The Oak Table. It is always a fun night out, sitting at the bar with friends, basking in the heart of our fabulous city, overlooking the State House.
LISTEN: Music is a huge component to our barre3 classes, so a portion of my day is spent searching Spotify to make the perfect playlists that get people excited and keep them energized. I’m an unabashed fan of anything Britney Spears. There is nothing like sweating to your favorite jam, so I love listening to music for my next class.
SEE: My three girls love to hit up Riverbanks Zoo, (South Carolina) State Museum and EdVenture (Children’s Museum). The (State) museum and EdVenture provide hours of family fun in the firetruck, learning about our state or playing in the grocery store. My oldest daughter, Peyton, has loved looking at the animals at the zoo since she was just a baby, and we have really enjoyed all the new renovations there.
