MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY AT CMA: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday at Columbia Museum of Art. The CMA is open to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with free admission. Come at 1 or 2 p.m. for a quick, 30-minute Spark Tour of the exhibit, “The Art of Joseph Norman,” along with other works in the collection by African-American artists. The University of South Carolina’s popular annual series will focus on South Carolina’s role in the American Revolutionary War. The history series presented by the university’s College of Arts and Sciences features conversations between guest speakers and university historian emeritus Walter Edgar. P.O.V. FILM SERIES SCREENS “THE SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD:” 7 p.m. Wednesday at Tapp’s Arts Center. The Point of View film series returns to Tapp’s with a screening of Guy Maddin’s “The Saddest Music in the World.” The movie is set in Depression-era Winnipeg, home of beer baroness Lady Port-Huntly (Isabella Rossellini), who sponsors a competition to find the world’s saddest music in order to boost beer sales. All Movie Guide calls it “a feverish whirligig of a movie” which continues the Canadian director’s career-long excavation of the dead idioms of cinema past. But when Jimmy, his wife-to-be and her prohibitionist family show up at the mansion, Billie and her cohorts pose as servants, causing hi-jinks.
