Original works will highlight Columbia College Dance Company show
The Columbia College Dance Company presents its annual Dance Faculty & Guest Artist Concert Friday and Saturday in Cottingham Theatre.
The 7:30 p.m. concert will feature original works choreographed by Columbia College Dance faculty, and an urban movement work Time is by guest artist Melissa Britt. All works will be performed by members of the Columbia College Dance Company.
POTENZA!! was choreographed in 2003 by Columbia College dance professor Martha Brim as a site-specific performance in an alley and on a fire escape in Sumter. Friday, it will be performed on a stage for the first time.
“We have had lots of fun bringing it back to life,” Brim said. “The dance is quick, bold and goofy in its
melodramatic quality.”
Residue, a new movement trio choreographed by Amanda Ling in collaboration with performers Sarah McGhee, Jasmine Stanley, and Meredith Yuhas, explores bruise patterns and the colors that spread and disperse after blood vessels burst underneath the skin.
This year marks the 100th year since iconic artist Georgia O’Keefe taught at Columbia College. In recognition of this anniversary, Marcy Jo Yonkey-Clayton, Columbia College dance program coordinator, will premiere Moving O’K, which serves as a danced homage to O’Keefe.
Also featured is Swallowed – a dynamic work choreographed by Erin Bailey exploring the lived experience of memories.
Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for senior citizens and students.
