Should you talk to your kids about money? If so, when and how?

Should you tell them how much you earn?

Should they get an allowance?

How much money should the Tooth Fairy give them, if any?

Award-winning personal finance columnist Ron Lieber answers these questions in his new book, “The Opposite of Spoiled: Raising Kids Who Are Grounded, Generous and Smart About Money.”

Lieber has spent a decade writing about money for “The Wall Street Journal” and “The New York Times.” He comes to Columbia Tuesday to discuss his book, which offers practical tips for talking with your kids about money. Lieber will address how conversations about money can reinforce lessons on virtues and character traits like modesty. He will also talk about how embracing the connection between money and values helps children become more grounded and less materialistic.

The discussion starts at 7 p.m. at the Katie and Irwin Kahn Jewish Community Center, 306 Flora Drive, Northeast Richland. The discussion is free and open to the public. However, seating is limited, and attendees are encouraged to register at www.yourfoundation.org/calendar/events/ron-lieber
