Two Valentine’s activities, both in one place
Since not everyone is good at planning Valentine’s Day in advance, Columbia Museum of Art has your back.
What could show love more than art, wine, chocolate and dogs?
Start the day with family time at noon. “Passport to Art” is a free monthly themed drop-in program for families, where participants create art, then explore the more profession version in the galleries.
Today, families will explore and create “puppy love.”
First, participants will create dogs using paint to mimic the texture of fur.
Once the families complete their dog, they’ll go on a tour of an art collection that explores the different ways dogs have been depicted in art through the ages.
A more adult Valentine’s Day event at the Columbia Museum of Art starts after hours.
And it involves chocolate and wine.
“Our ‘Tour and Tasting’ programs offers guests an exclusive opportunity to sample wines and explore the museum after hours,” said Glenna Barlow, manager of engagement at Columbia Museum of Art.
Sunday, guests can sample chocolates paired with wines selected by Doug Aylard of Vino Garage, who will share his expertise. The chocolates are being custom-made courtesy of Evolution through Chocolate.
Afterwards, enjoy an exclusive after-hours tour of the museum’s collection.
“It should be a great night to explore art and artisanal delicacies,” Barlow said.
The “Valentine’s Tour and Tasting” begins at 6 p.m. It costs $55 for Columbia Museum of Art members, $65 for nonmembers. Get tickets online at www.columbiamuseum.org
“Passport to Art” begins at noon and ends at 3 p.m.
