BLACK HISTORY EXTRAVAGANZA:10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday at Greenview Park. Exhibits, vendors, live entertainment and appearances by local political leaders as well as TV personality Cynthia Hardy. Presented by Columbia Parks and Recreation Department. AUNTIE KAREN FOUNDATION’S 13th ANNUAL LEGENDS OF...CONCERT SERIES: 8 p.m. Friday at Koger Center for the Arts. Event will feature five-time Grammy Award winner Al Jarreau, performing with his acclaimed band and then the S.C. Philharmonic Orchestra. The foundation is a nonprofit whose mission is to empower, enlighten, educate through the arts. 9TH ANNUAL STRONGTHREADS: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at St. John Holistic Wellness Center in Hopkins. This annual African American Heritage Celebration and Festival emphasizes the history of the Lower Richland Heritage Corridor with workshops, displays, food and vendors. Special guest is Grammy winner and Broadway performer Jennifer Holiday, along with performances by gospel artist Regina Skeeters, artist MO Music, Melodic Hearts, and the ABATSU Dancers and Drummers of Hilton Head and more. 27th ANNUAL HARAMBEE FESTIVAL: 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at Benedict College. This annual family event features food, live music, health screenings, kids’ activities and a shopping village. This year the Sensational Nightingales will appear at the festival and at a concert the next day. The Benedict College Gospel Choir and Harambee Festival Community Choir also will be among musical performers. Free admission. www.benedict.edu

BREAKING BOUNDARIES: 7:30 p.m. Monday at Drayton Hall Theatre. University of South Carolina Dance welcomes special guest artist Arturo Fernandez, who will present his original contemporary ballet work, “Counterpoint (Revisited),” for the concert. Fernandez is a member of San Francisco’s Alonzo King LINES Ballet. Also presenting works are assistant professors Tanya Wideman-Davis and Thaddeus Davis, professor Stephanie Milling and dance instructor Stephanie Wilkins. EQUUS FILM FESTIVAL: Monday through Saturday, various locations in Camden. This city is host for the EQUUS Film Festival WINNIE Winners Tour, billed as the world’s premier showcase for domestic and international feature films, documentaries and shorts, in which the horse is put center stage. Film screenings, discounts, tours and other events planned as part of the week. DECKLE EDGE LITERARY FESTIVAL: Thursday through Sunday, various times and locations around Columbia. This new event, named after the uneven edges of paper formed by the deckle device in a papermaking machine, is a quasi replacement for the S.C. Book Festival, which dissolved this summer after a 17-year run. This festival features an impressive list of authors, panel discussions, workshops, dinners and more. Most events are free.
