Six bands are battling it out for the chance to play the big stage at St. Pat’s in Five Points on Saturday, March 19, and they need your vote.

The Five Points Association received 28 band entries, and an anonymous panel of judges narrowed the field to six. Online voting will determine the winner.

The winning band will be awarded a time slot to perform on the Miller Lite Stage and a four-hour recording studio session with the Jam Room Recording Studio in Columbia.

Voting ends at midnight Thursday, March 3, and the winner will be announced at the Fountain Division of W.P. Law’s Official Kick-Off on Friday, March 4.

To help you determine the blarniest band out there, check out our group breakdown, then go vote for whoever makes your shamrocks shake.

Daddy Lion

TYPE OF MUSIC: Indie rock

INFLUENCES: Velvet Underground, Weezer

FROM: Columbia

MEMBERS: Jeremy Joseph, Randal Franklin, Bart Ballington, Chris Johnson

BACKSTORY: Joseph answered Franklin’s Craigslist ad in 2013, at which time Franklin didn’t actually own any music equipment. But after talking to Joseph, he bought a cheap bass from a pawn shop and the two started jamming, adding Ballington and Johnson as members of Daddy Lion soon after.

IRISH BLOOD: Very little

DESERVES YOUR VOTE IF: You’re into classic rock fused with contemporary styles.

JOHNSON SAYS: “We’re currently in the studio recording a ton of exciting new material and would love to give Columbia a sneak peek!”

JUST FOR FUN: If not playing music, Ballington would be devising a plan to resurrect Jerry Garcia or hosting a television show all about Phish.

Ropeswing Marathon

TYPE OF MUSIC: Electric rock

INFLUENCES: Cage The Elephant, Umphrey’s McGee,

FROM: Columbia

MEMBERS: Jake Lopiccolo, Blake Hunter, Ryan Hood, Richard Thomas and Austin Thomas

BACKSTORY: Ropeswing Marathon has been a band for almost a year and a half. This bunch of goofy guys are as close as brothers (and some of them actually are).

IRISH BLOOD: 60 percent

DESERVES YOUR VOTE IF: You like bass-forward tunes with laid-back vibes.

LOPICCOLO SAYS: “We’re the young underdogs of the competition, and we want to funk this festival up.”

JUST FOR FUN: If not playing music, Hunter would probably be out saving the environment.

Finding Lucy

TYPE OF MUSIC: Indie rock

SOUNDS LIKE: All American Rejects, Green Day

FROM: Columbia

MEMBERS: Grayson Alexander, Logan Charles, Alex Nolan, Evan Moore

BACKSTORY: Finding Lucy has been a band for four years, but it wasn’t a serious project for the members until the 2014 St. Pat’s Festival.

IRISH BLOOD: Charles refuses to wear anything but a kilt if the band is selected to play St. Pat’s.

DESERVES YOUR VOTE IF: You appreciate rock with a punk edge a la Blink 182.

ALEXANDER SAYS:Everyone in the band, including myself, is somewhat of a social outcast for one reason or another. So as a group of friends, we’re sort of a weird mix, but that just makes us stronger!”

Bizness Suit

TYPE OF MUSIC: Rock

INFLUENCES: Arctic Monkeys, The Doors

FROM: Charleston

MEMBERS: Sean Barry, Jeremy Hunton and Drew Tapp

BACKSTORY: About two years ago, Barry and Tapp met by fighting over a girl. The musicians became friends and moved to Charleston, where they met Hunton and formed Bizness Suit.

IRISH BLOOD: Barry and Hunton are each half Irish. Tapp is as Irish as spaghetti.

DESERVES YOUR VOTE IF: You enjoy bluesy rock ’n’ roll with folk influences. Plus, the band’s music video (below) is a claymation, which is pretty rad.

BARRY SAYS: “We got the looks of Tyrion Lannister, the brains of Hodor, and the liveliness of Ned Stark.”

JUST FOR FUN: If not playing music, Barry says, “Drew would be a homeless poet with great hair, Jeremy would be a mountain man mining the hills of South Dakota, and I would be sparing no expense in building the greatest dinosaur theme park of all time.”

Semicasual

TYPE OF MUSIC: Blues rock

INFLUENCES: Led Zeppelin, The Black Keys

FROM: Columbia

MEMBERS: Mark Bennett, Ben Haggard and Mitch Martin

BACKSTORY: This trio of engineers and software developers have been a band for three years now.

IRISH BLOOD: A generous dash

DESERVES YOUR VOTE IF: You’re into shows with lots of dancing and audience interaction.

BENNETT SAYS: “We’re not just musicians. We’re entertainers. We already have plans to make St. Pat’s one of our most high-energy shows to date if we are given the opportunity to play.”

fk mt.

TYPE OF MUSIC: Pop

INFLUENCES: Swervedriver, Nirvana

FROM: Columbia

MEMBERS: Ryan Morris, Ony Ratsimbaharison and Josh Latham

BACKSTORY: Fk mt. (pronounced “f--- mountain”) formed in 2013 as Morris’ acoustic project. The original lineup included drummer Brandon Johnson, who has since moved to Portland, Ore., and been replaced by Latham.

DESERVES YOUR VOTE IF: You like songs loaded with reverb and heavy, catchy riffs.
