END RACISM DAY: Various events throughout the day Monday. The S.C. Human Affairs Commission is taking the lead to promote this event, officially observed since 1966 by the United Nations as The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It kicks off with a news conference at the S.C. State House and includes free guided walking tours of civil rights sites downtown, free tour of REMIX at the Columbia Museum of Art, a free panel discussion about race and the showing of a film in the Nikky Finney series at the Nickelodeon. Each screening in the spring series pairs a classic, cult or documentary film with a lively introduction by notable scientists. The Nick will screen four films as part of this series. This event was created to help raise the funds to produce the celebration, which includes a Boat Parade and several firework shows. This year’s fundraiser will include foods from local restaurants and food trucks and entertainment by The Mark Roberts Band.
