Get ready to make a splash this summer in Columbia on giant slide
Slide the City is coming back to Columbia for another run this summer.
The slide will be in downtown Columbia June 11. Last year’s event drew thousands of riders to the 1,000-foot slip and slide, which will again be set up this year at Laurel and Gadsden streets. The capital city is one of several stops on the Slide the City tour.
Here are a few things you need to know; other details, including hours for the event, are still in the works.
▪ The slide spans the length of three football fields.
▪ Inflatable tubes are required to ride the slide. One-time riders must bring their own or purchase one. Other levels include the tube as part of registration fees. There are different levels of slides that can be purchased, from single to unlimited.
▪ For last year’s event, riders were required to be at least 5 years old and 46 inches tall. Riders younger than 18 had to have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. This year’s guidelines weren’t immediately available, but they likely will be similar.
▪ Discounted tickets are on sale now. Fees for a single slide are $13 now, $20 on the day of the event. Triple Slider and Ultimate Slider packages, with more rides, also are available at discounted prices now.
Tickets and other details are at www.slidethecity.com.
