“Barbershop: The Next Cut” (PG-13): More than a decade later, the Southside Chicago hangout has gone co-ed in this sequel to the 2002 comedy. With Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, Regina Hall. Written by Kenya Barris & Tracy Oliver. Directed by Malcolm D. Lee. PG-13.

“Criminal” (R): The memories, secrets and skills of a dead CIA operative are implanted into the brain of a death-row inmate. With Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones. Written by Douglas Cook & David Weisberg. Directed by Ariel Vromen. (1:53) R.

“The Jungle Book” (PG): Director Jon Favreau guides this live action and CGI version of Rudyard Kipling’s tale, which follows the adventures of the raised-by-wolves boy Mowgli. With Neel Sethi and the voices of Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba. Written by Justin Marks.

“FIRST FOLIO! THE BOOK THAT GAVE US SHAKESPEARE:” 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the Hollings Library at Thomas Cooper Library, University of South Carolina. USC welcomes the traveling exhibit of William Shakespeare’s First Folio, with the first collected edition of his works published in 1623 opening to the public. The national traveling exhibition from the Folger Shakespeare Library is part of an international commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. One of the world’s most treasured books, the First Folio includes 36 of his plays including “The Tempest,” “Macbeth” and “As you Like It.” Free and open to the public. 11TH ANNUAL BALLET STARS OF NEW YORK GALA: 7 p.m. Friday at the Koger Center for the Arts. The one-night-only concert will feature New York City Ballet principal dancers Sara Mearns – a Columbia native, recently nominated as Best Female Dancer in the Benois de la Danse international ballet awards – along with Jared Angle, Tyler Angle, Megan Fairchild, Chase Finlay, Gonzalo Garcia and Rebecca Krohn. The world comes to Columbia in this vibrant annual event with 75 national exhibits, food from around the world, an international bazaar, cultural music and dance performances, fashion shows and an Olympic-style parade of nations. This year’s festival highlights the continent of Africa.
