Downtown Columbia has First Thursdays on Main. Could Forest Acres soon have its own version on Tuesdays?

That’s the idea behind the Trenholm Artists Guild’s upcoming Art Tuesdays.

The Trenholm Artists Guild, the Forest Acres Restaurant and Merchants Association and The Picture Place have teamed up to create a new event for art lovers in Columbia.

The Picture Place, which relocated to 4711 Forest Drive after the October flooding, will host a two-week art exhibit by Trenholm Artists Guild members. The exhibit includes paintings, sculptures, pottery and jewelry and will be on display Tuesday through May 2.

An opening reception will be held 5-8 p.m. Tuesday. Participating artists will be on hand to talk about their work. There also will be refreshments and live music by CJ Mack.

“We need something for the arts in this area” of Forest Acres, artist guild vice president Glenda Keyes said. “The vision is that down the road other Forest Acres merchants will get involved.”

Art Tuesdays will begin as a quarterly event but will increase in frequency if the enthusiasm is there, Keyes said.
