Here’s some fun for Saturday: A scavenger hunt around Columbia

It’s National Travel and Tourism Week, and to celebrate, the Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports and Tourism (Columbia’s CVB) is holding a scavenger hunt around the city Saturday.

The goal? To help participants see their home town from a different perspective.

“We thought this would be a fun way to get people moving around the city and seeing some of what Columbia has to offer,” said Dayna Cantelmi, a marketing associate for the organization.

Here’s how it works. Participants (grouped into teams of four) will begin at Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center at 10 a.m. to receive their first clue. To keep things speedy, staff members will be set up outside so the teams can drive up, grab the clue, and drive on to the next stop.

The teams will receive a new clue at each location until they reach the end. In order to qualify for prizes, the teams must take a picture at each of the six locations, post it to social media and tag that location, as well as use the #famouslyhot and #NTTW16 hashtags. They also must turn in the clues they gathered.

Each team that completes the hunt will qualify to be entered into a drawing to win prizes that include gift certificates to area restaurants, Fireflies tickets and other goodies.

Organizers emphasize that the event is not a race – all participants who qualify will be entered in the drawing. Winners will be announced on May 14.

Registration is free and will be accepted online up until 10am on Saturday. To register, visit Eventbrite.com/e/famously-hot-scavenger-hunt-tickets-9540398589.
