May is National Bike Month and there are plenty of cycle-centric events happening in Columbia. This week there is a Handlebar Happy Hour and a Historic Columbia bike tour.

Established in 1956, National Bike Month aims to showcase the many benefits of bicycling and encourage more folks to giving biking a try, according to the League of American Bicyclists.

On Wednesday, interested cyclists will meet from 6-8 p.m. at Publick House at 2307 Devine St. for Handlebar Happy Hour. The event is an opportunity for people interested in bike and pedestrian issues in Columbia to meet and socialize. The event features speakers as well as a bike valet.

At 8 a.m. Friday, get some exercise and learn more about your city on the Historic Columbia bike tour.

Among other events:

▪ National Bike to Work Week is May 16-20. Bike to Work Day is May 20.
