Indie Grits will focus on Latino film in 2017
Following on the heels of the Indie Grits festival last month, organizers announced Tuesday the theme of next year’s event, as well as three new sponsors.
Visiones will be the theme for the film, art and technology festival, which will take place April 20-23, 2017 in Columbia.
“Visiones will explore Latino influence on Southern culture and empower Latino artists to re-define their evolving identity through film and art,” according to a press release. The theme reflects the explosive growth of the Latino community in South Carolina and across the Southeast, and will explore the Latino influence on Southern culture through film and art, organizers said.
Afro-Peruvian political poster designer Favianna Rodriguez will be one of the festival’s visiting artists.
The festival also announced that the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, the Surdna Foundation and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts will be new sponsors for 2017.
