Monstrous good fun awaits at EdVenture

While the world—and, if you’re a kid, the space under most beds-- is filled with scary monsters, there are plenty of friendly varieties, too. Think Cookie Monster, Sully from the movie Monsters, Inc. and even Shrek, who, though technically an ogre, gets monster points for being large, green and, apparently, stinky.

On Saturday, July 9, kids with an interest in monsters can spend the day in the bio-lab with the science team at EdVenture experimenting with monster science.

Using special goopy material that oozes, runs and drips without sticking or staining, kids can create their own lava monsters, volcanos and monster lairs, as well as foaming monster toothpaste and monster gak.

At 12:00 p.m. and then again at 2:30 p.m. members of the Center for Environmental Nanoscience and Risk will dress up like Nano Monsters and perform science experiments in Edventure’s bio-lab.

On the craft/demonstration table, kids can make their own monster masks and alien boogers, and create mini-monsters out of puzzle pieces and other craft materials. They can also try their hand at holding onto monster slime, which pours like a liquid but can turn solid when squeezed just right.

“Every Saturday is a fun day at EdVenture, but we’re particularly excited about Monster Day,” says EdVenture Marketing Director Margaret Clarkson. “The activities are fun and creative, but not at all scary.”

Monster Day is free with museum admission; for more information, visit www.edventure.org.
