After Rio, Simone Biles and fellow U.S. gymnasts are Carolina-bound

The 2016 Olympic Games are still 3 1⁄2 weeks away, but the members of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team already are planning their victory lap.

Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian and Aly Raisman – all of whom were selected to the American squad Sunday night following the Olympic Trials in San Jose, Calif. – are signed to this fall’s Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions.

The tour stops Oct. 28 at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte. No stops currently are planned in South Carolina.

A similar showcase made the rounds after Douglas, Raisman, Jordyn Wieber, McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross won a team gold medal for the U.S. in London in 2012.

The two-hour show (including intermission) portrayed the sport of gymnastics in the best possible light. It showcased the skill, strength and athleticism of its most impressive athletes, and brightened everything up with colorful strobe lights, lasers, a pop music soundtrack and an array of sparkling costumes.

According to a news release, Wieber (now retired and working as a manager for UCLA’s gymnastics team) and 2008 Olympic all-around champion Nastia Liukin (now an analyst for NBC’s coverage of Olympic gymnastics) will also be a part of the current tour’s cast. Liukin did a routine involving aerial straps during the 2012 Kellogg’s Tour.

Tickets are $29-$299 at the Time Warner Cable Arena Box Office, www.timewarnercablearena.com, www.ticketmaster.com or (800) 745-3000. Tickets can be upgraded to include a pre-show Q&A hosted by Liukin and featuring select gymnasts, as well as a post-show autograph session with the Olympians.

It is unclear whether North Carolina’s Ashton Locklear and the other two replacement athletes (MyKayla Skinner and Ragan Smith) will be a part of the tour.
