What ever happened to the Ying Yang Twins?

Circa 2000, the Atlanta hip-hop duo Eric “Kaine” Jackson and Deongelo “D-Roc” Holmes were on top of their game, drinking crunk juice and getting everyone to “shake it like a salt shaker.”

The duo comes to Music Farm Columbia on Saturday, July 23.

The Twins are probably best-known for their hit “Get Low,” a collaboration with Lil Jon that took you to the window, to the wall. It was the song that all middle-schoolers grinded to in 2000s, with lyrics they probably shouldn’t have been listening to.

Ah, good times.

The times stayed good after the Ying Yang Twins’ successful first and second album releases, which included hits “What’s Happnin,” and “Whistle While You Twurk.”

Then the duo seemed to hit their plateau around 2006.

Since then, they periodically have dropped remix and greatest hits albums, as well as several mixtapes, almost all of them self-produced.

The tunes stopped altogether for a few years following D-Roc’s arrest on domestic abuse charges in 2014.

It wasn’t until very recently that the Ying Yang Twins were active again.

They collaborated with Miami rapper Pouya on a song called “Badonk,” and toured a number of college campuses last year.

The nostalgia factor is the main draw for the Music Farm show, especially if you were one of those dirty dancing middle-schoolers of old.

So get to the show, get low, and get turnt up like it’s 2001.
