MOVIES OPENING THIS WEEKEND IN COLUMBIA
“MECHANIC: RESURRECTION” (R): Hitman Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) is forced to come out of retirement and commit three difficult assassinations in order to rescue his kidnapped lover (Jessica Alba). The hardest part: He must make all of the killings look like accidents.
“SOUTHSIDE WITH YOU” (PG-13): Young Chicago lawyers Michelle Robinson (Tika Sumpter) and Barack Obama (Parker Sawyers) spend a sweltering summer afternoon visiting the art museum, eating lunch together, watching “Do The Right Thing,” and sharing a first kiss in this dramatization of the President and First Lady’s first date.
“THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS” (PG-13): Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander are a married couple living on a remote island in Australia after World War I in this adaptation of M. L. Stedman’s best-selling novel.
“MORGAN” (R): Luke Scott (son of Ridley) makes his directorial debut with this horror thriller about a corporate consultant (Kate Mara) who must decide whether to pull the plug on an artificial-intelligence creature that has become sentient.
KICKBOXER: VENGEANCE: A young fighter (Alain Moussi) travels to Thailand to train under a kickboxing master (Jean-Claude Van Damme) to seek revenge for his brother’s murder.
