Formerly banned rapper leads ‘freshmen class’ of hip hop stars to Columbia

NBA YoungBoy will lead an up-and-coming group of hip hop stars in a performance in Columbia.

The rapper, who was temporarily banned from performing live, will headline the T3 Entertainment Birthday Bash at Colonial Life Arena on March 28, concert promoters said in a news release.

Among the “freshmen class of hip hop superstars” set to join NBA YoungBoy on the bill will be Rod Wave, Mulatto, and Toosii, among others, according to the release.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public Friday at 10 a.m., and will be available at ticketmaster.com, and at the Colonial Life Arena box office.

Ticket prices range from $53 to $163, according to the arena.

“I can see this concert selling out,” blogger Kris Styles said in the release. “Each of the artists listed have done major numbers in attendance solo, so I can only imagine the energy that they will bring all together on one show. ... I am most excited about seeing NBA Young Boy!”

NBA YoungBoy was the seventh-best selling artist of 2019 in the U.S. and the third-best selling rapper, behind Post Malone and Drake, according to Nielson’s chart data.

In June 2019, he was sentenced to 90 days in jail for a probation violation, the Advocate reported. He was on probation for a 2016 shooting of a rival in Baton Rouge, according to The Miami Herald.

He was released from his probation, and a temporary ban preventing him from performing was lifted in December, per WAFB.

NBA YoungBoy was ambushed by gunfire outside a Miami hotel in May 2019, and an innocent bystander killed in the shooting, the Herald reported. The 19-year-old was in South Florida to perform at the Rolling Loud hip-hop festival, according to the newspaper.

The birthday bash is the latest hip hop show scheduled to come to Colonial Life Arena. Post Malone will bring his “Runaway Tour” to Columbia on Feb. 29, and rap icons Omarion and Bow Wow are part of the “Millennium Tour 2020” scheduled for April 12.
