Country music legends reschedule Columbia performance — again

Country music legends Alabama are postponing their upcoming performance in Columbia — for a second time.

Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the popular group has rescheduled its show at Colonial Life Arena for April 24, 2021.

Alabama was originally slated to bring its “50th Anniversary Tour” to Columbia in October 2019.

The group had to scuttle that concert because of health issues affecting lead singer Randy Owen. Owen suffered from complications with cluster migraines and vertigo, officials said.

Alabama was making a 50-city tour, and had more than 20 concerts postponed because of Owen’s ailments, Pollstar reported.

When Owen was cleared to return to the road, Alabama was going to play Colonial Life Arena on July 10, 2020. That was supposed to be the first show on the relaunched tour, according to the band’s website.

But the rising number of COVID-19 cases in South Carolina has impacted plans for concerts. Now the hope is public health officials will permit Alabama, and other performers, to take the stage at Colonial Life Arena in 2021.

More than a dozen other performers have also canceled or postponed performances at Colonial Life Arena since testing for COVID-19 in South Carolina began in March.

Tickets purchased for July’s performance will be valid for the new performance date, Colonial Life Arena said in a news release.

Tickets for the twice rescheduled show are still on sale, and prices range from $35 to $173.

Alabama has sold 80 million records during their award-winning career, and The Charlie Daniels Band was scheduled to be the opening act on the tour.
