Elderly woman shot at ATM in West Columbia. Police investigating
A woman is in the hospital after being shot while at an ATM in West Columbia.
Said to be elderly or older, the woman was shot around 7 a.m., according to Scott Morrison, assistant police chief of West Columbia Police Department. The incident happened near Augusta Road and Wattling Road close to the Big Lots. She was shot in the hand. A full recovery is expected.
“The reason it occurred was because it was attempted robbery,” Morrison said.
It’s unclear whether the shooter got away with any money.
Morrison says police are investigating. West Columbia released a surveillance photo of the suspect wearing a red shirt and carrying what appears to be a pistol.
