A Midlands ice cream shop that opened a couple locations earlier this year is switching to a new name.

Holy Cow Creamery opened ice cream locations at 110 Clemson Road in northeast Columbia and 603 Columbia Ave. in Lexington several months ago. Now the business announced Wednesday in posts on Facebook and Instagram that it is changing names to Cola Cow Creamery.

The move comes after the discovery that there was another business with a similar name, the ice cream shop posted.

“Apparently, there’s another ice cream shop out there with a name that’s a little too close to ours,” Cola Cow Creamery said on social media. “We genuinely had no idea they existed. After some legal back-and-forth, we’ve decided to turn the page. We want to focus on what really matters most: our customers, quality desserts, and excellent service.”

The social media posts from Cola Cow Creamery did not specify what other business had a similar name to its previous moniker.

“We’re choosing to see this as an opportunity,” Cola Cow said on social media. “New name. New chapter. Same ice cream obsession.”

Cola Cow Creamery serves dozens of flavors of Hershey’s ice cream. It also has sundaes and a selection of Mooshakes. Among the shakes is the Southern Cow. That’s banana pudding ice cream blended with Nilla wafers, served in a caramel drizzled cup with a vanilla frosted rim rolled in Nilla wafer crumbs. It’s topped with a whole banana, caramel, Nilla wafers and whipped cream.
