A company known for frozen custard, shakes and other sweet treats is setting up a new shop in a fast-growing area of Lexington County.

Whit’s Frozen Custard, which has locations in a number of states, is prepping a new shop at 1788 S. Lake Drive in Lexington’s Red Bank area. It will be in a small shopping strip near a Walmart, with directly neighboring businesses including U.S. Wings & Deli and Little Caesars Pizza, among a number of others. There also is a Rush’s close by.

There are posters on the windows at 1788 S. Lake noting that Whit’s is “coming soon.” While an opening date has not been announced, the posters indicate the shop could open this summer. The coming Whit’s also is listed in the July 2026 agenda of the Lexington County Planning Commission. Construction was going on inside the shop when a reporter briefly went by Tuesday.

Whit’s Frozen Custard has locations in 10 states, according to its website, including South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and elsewhere. Other locations in South Carolina include spots in Fort Mill, North Myrtle Beach and James Island, among other towns. The Lexington location is listed as “coming soon” on the Whit’s website.

The menu at Whit’s includes frozen custard scoops, shakes, floats, frozen custard sandwiches and more. One offering is the Cookie Monster, which has vanilla custard, crushed cookies and cream, chocolate chip cookie dough bites and chocolate syrup swirls.

The Red Bank area in south central Lexington County has boomed with growth in recent years with new subdivisions, schools, businesses and more. More than 28,000 cars per day travel down South Lake Drive, per SC Department of Transportation data, while more than 19,000 cars per day traverse nearby Platt Springs Road.
