Riverbanks Zoo announces birth of giraffe
Riverbanks Zoo welcomed a new addition as a baby giraffe was born two days ago.
Zoo representatives announced the birth on Facebook Live.
Ginger, the giraffe's mother, gave birth to a healthy female calf. The baby weighed 93 lbs and stood 5 feet 7 inches tall at birth. She was standing for the first time just an hour after her birth.
Still to come: Kazi, one of the zoo's gorillas, is beginning her final trimester of pregnancy, and lionesses Lindelani and Thebisa are on track to give birth later in April.
In late 2017, Lottie the koala gave birth. In March, the six-month-old joey began to emerge from its mother's pouch.
