So ... Famous Toastery will NOT be coming to Columbia’s Main Street.

In 2016, it was reported that the local franchise owner of the North Carolina-based eatery had terminated a lease with the Arnold Co. for the former Moe Levy’s location at the corner of Lady and Assembly streets and, instead, was to make the move to the 1300 block of Main Street.

Construction at 1307 Main St., the former site of Atlanta Bread Co., was to begin in early 2018 with Famous Toastery set to open in May or June.

Robert Maynard, founder and CEO of Famous Toastery, said in a phone interview that the decision was mutual and that he still plans expansion into the greater Columbia and Lexington markets. A Famous Toastery location at 119 Sparkleberry Lane in northeast Columbia has been serving breakfast and brunch items since January 2017.
