An exercise equipment manufacturing company is making a multi-million dollar expansion to its Lexington County operation, according to South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster’s office.

Sorinex Exercise Equipment, Inc., announced plans to invest $7 million and create 35 jobs as part of the expansion, the governor’s office said Thursday in a news release.

The family-owned strength training equipment company has specialized in creating custom exercise gear and workout apparel for more than 40 years, according to the release.

“It is great to see family-owned businesses like Sorinex Exercise Equipment, Inc. expand in South Carolina,” McMaster said in the release. “We congratulate them on their continued growth, and we look forward to the positive impact they’ll continue to make in Lexington County and beyond.”

The investment also was cheered by Lexington County Council Chairman Scott Whetstone and South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III, among others.

From weight racks to machines, the company uses raw materials, laser technology and craftsmanship to create equipment to provide high-quality workout experiences for customers, the governor’s office said.

Sorinex has a variety of customers including high schools, colleges, professional teams, military bases and more, according to the release.

The University of South Carolina football team is one of it’s customers. The Gamecocks have custom-made weight racks designed and built by Sorinex in the football operations building.

“I told them, ‘Make something that has never been made before,’ and they did,” USC’s former head strength coach Jeff Dillman said in 2019.

Sorinex’s facility is at 120 Glassmaster Road in Lexington. That’s near Exit 55 on Interstate 20.

“We’re proud to have the opportunity to build the most innovative weight equipment in the world right here in Lexington, South Carolina,” Sorinex Controller Kenny Workman said in the release.

The governor’s office said the expansion will accommodate increased capacity created by growing demand, and it’s expected to be completed within a year.

Those interested in applying for a job can visit the company’s careers page.

“Sorinex Exercise Equipment, Inc. is an expert at building strong bodies. With today’s investment, the company is also helping build a stronger community,” Central SC Alliance Chairman W. Keller Kissam said in the release.
