Sandhills Middle student charged with making threat

A Sandhills Middle School student was charged with making a threat after police say he made a threatening comment to a classmate on Friday.

The male student, who is unnamed because he is under 18, threatened to “stab and choke” another student at the Gaston school, according to a news release from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies interviewed the boy at school and released him to the custody of his mother, the news release said.

A Lexington 4 school district spokesperson did not immediately respond to questions from The State about whether the student was suspended or recommended for expulsion.

In September, an eighth grader at Sandhills Middle was detained by police after officials say he showed classmates a knife during morning arrival. The student was charged with threatening a student and carrying a weapon on school grounds, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
