Why did the chicken move up the road?

To better serve future growth, it seems.

Chick-fil-A, the enduringly popular fast food chicken sandwich chain, is planning to relocate one of its Columbia restaurants. The company said in an email to The State that it is “actively pursuing” a spot at 7500 Two Notch Road and plans to move its store at 2600 Decker Blvd to that location.

“As a restaurant matures, we reassess the location and its ability to serve the restaurant’s future growth,” the company said in a statement. “Depending on availability, we often look to find a location that better supports our needs. We look forward to opening this restaurant and serving all of our guests with genuine hospitality in the latter half of 2022.”

The news of Chick-fil-A’s plans was first reported by The Post and Courier.

The Two Notch Road site is about a mile-and-a-half from the Decker Boulevard location. The move would put Chick-fil-A much closer to Interstate 20.

Chick-fil-A has continued to make moves in the Midlands.

The chicken chain currently is building a location at 5465 Platt Springs Road in Red Bank. That’s directly in front of a Publix grocery store at the Lake Crossing shopping center.

Meanwhile, Chick-fil-A also has plans to tear down its existing store on Harbison Boulevard, near Columbiana Centre Mall, and build back a bigger location on that site with more drive-thru lanes.

There are currently 14 Chick-fil-A locations in Richland and Lexington counties, according to a store locator tool on the company’s website.
