Despite initial listings, Columbiana mall will be open this Saturday
The Columbiana Centre mall will be open on Saturday, April 23, despite information on the mall’s website and social media that initially said it would be closed.
Listings on Columbiana Centre’s website and its Facebook page on Monday morning said the mall would be closed on Saturday, April 23. That would have been one week after a highly publicized shooting incident on April 16 that left 14 people injured.
However, mall spokesperson Lindsay Kahn said late Monday afternoon that the listings advertising the mall being closed on April 23 were an error. The mall’s website and social media have since been updated.
Kahn said the mall apologizes for any confusion created by the initial postings indicating it would be closed on April 23.
“We will be open Saturday,” she said.
The mall was closed on April 16 after the shooting incident, and was closed on Easter Sunday. It reopened Monday morning.
Chaos broke out following gunfire at Columbiana Centre on the afternoon of Saturday, April 16. Fourteen people were injured during the incident but no one died, according to police. The victims range in age from 15 to 73 years old, police said.
Of those injured, nine were hit by gunfire and five others were hurt as people fled to exits, according to the Columbia Police Department. Injuries suffered by people who were fleeing the mall included broken bones, lacerations and a head injury.
As of Monday afternoon, two people had been arrested in connection with the incident. Jewayne M. Price, 22, has been charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol. Judge Crystal Rookard set Price’s bond at $25,000 and also required that he be fitted with an ankle monitor and that he not interact with anyone involved in the case or visit the Columbiana Centre. Price’s attorney, Democratic state Rep. Todd Rutherford, said Price was defending himself in the incident and turned himself in to police.
Also arrested was Marquise Love Robinson, 20, of Columbia, who was charged with attempted murder, nine counts of aggravated assault, and unlawful carrying of a pistol.
