Charlotte man is most recent person killed in crash at Midlands ATV park, coroner says
A Charlotte man was killed in a crash at a Midlands ATV park over the weekend, the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office said Monday.
Jorge Bienavides, 35, died from injuries he suffered Saturday at Carolina Adventure World, Coroner Chris Hill said in a news release.
Bienavides died at the scene after the ATV he was riding flipped over and landed on him in what Hill called an accident.
Information about what caused Bienavides to lose control of the ATV was not available, but the collision continues to be investigated by the coroner’s office.
Hill said an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
Carolina Adventure World calls itself the Southeast’s largest private off-road ATV UTV Dirt bike park, with 100 miles of groomed trails. It’s in Winnsboro, about 40 miles north of Columbia.
This is not the first death reported at Carolina Adventure World.
In February, two South Carolina men were killed in a crash. A 32-year-old from Little River was driving an ATV with a 46-year-old from Longs on board as a passenger when they lost control and the ATV crashed through a gate and went down a 30-foot embankment, the coroner’s office said.
The ATV rolled over numerous times, ejecting both men who died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.
Another death was reported in 2020, when a 23-year-old Charlotte man was killed in collision. He was pinned under a vehicle after it flipped at the Midlands ATV park.
At another Midlands ATV park, a South Carolina man died while riding an ATV in July 2021. The 30-year-old rode a four-wheeler into a pond and died at the Broken Nut Off Road Park in Kershaw County.
