A national chicken restaurant is coming to Columbia. Here’s where they’re setting up shop

A new chicken is coming home to roost in Columbia.

Slim Chickens, a restaurant with locations across the U.S., is building a new restaurant at 7544 Garners Ferry Road in Columbia. That is near the Garners Ferry Walmart and a host of other businesses in the area.

Construction is well underway on the site. An opening date has not been announced, and the location is listed as “coming soon” on the Slim Chickens website. There also is a new Starbucks being constructed next door to where the Slim Chickens will be.

Founded in Arkansas, Slim Chickens has since grown to a number of states across the nation. The nearest current locations to the Midlands are on Washington Road in Evans, Georgia, and on Prosperity Ridge Road in Charlotte, per a store locator tool on the company’s website.

A look at Slim Chickens’ menu reveals a host of offerings, including chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches, wraps, salads and more. The restaurant also touts a number of side items, such as mac and cheese, fried okra, fried pickles, fried mushrooms, ranch chips and more. It also carries sweet treats, such as milkshakes and brownies.

The restaurant will be coming to a busy section of Garners Ferry Road. Per state Department of Transportation traffic count data, about 31,000 cars per day travel that stretch of the road.
