Man died at scene of Lexington County house fire, coroner says
An investigation is underway after a man died at the scene of a house fire Sunday, the Lexington County Coroner’s Office said.
Sollie Keith Kenta Benjamin, a 43-year-old Gaston resident, died at the scene, according to Coroner Margaret Fisher.
The fire happened at about 4 a.m. at a home in the 200 block of Bent Tree Circle, Fisher said. That’s a residential area in Gaston near Fish Hatchery Road, not far from U.S. 321.
There was no word if that was where Benjamin lived.
No other injuries were reported.
Information on Benjamin’s cause of death was not available, but an autopsy is scheduled Monday, according to Fisher.
There was no word about where in the home the fire started, or the cause, but it is being investigated by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
In May, and also in November 2021, Benjamin was the defendant in civil suits that were both settled in favor of Trubild LLC, Lexington County court records show.
Trubild is a property management company based out of Mount Pleasant that has properties in North Carolina and South Carolina, including some on Bent Tree Circle in Lexington County, according to listings on its website. Many of its listings are for mobile homes or prefab houses.
