Details emerging about new barbecue restaurant planned for the Midlands. Here’s where
Some details are beginning to emerge on a new barbecue restaurant that is planned for Chapin, including its planned address.
Developers announced Wednesday afternoon that 518 Smokehouse will be located at 673 Chapin Road and will likely open in fall 2023. A news release from LTC Hospitality Services said the smokehouse will bring “high-quality BBQ” to Chapin and that the restaurant will have live music and a family friendly atmosphere.
LTC Hospitality is run by Columbia’s Middleton family, which has opened a number of restaurants and businesses on the capital city’s Main Street, including The Grand on Main, the high-end Smoked restaurant, The Venue dueling piano bar and others.
The company said in its release that the 518 Smokehouse name “comes from a college camaraderie at Winthrop’s campus; a group of friends living together at 518 Smokehouse Lane bonded forever over beer & good barbecue.” The release also said the smokehouse is being “created to entertain future generations, give parents relaxation, and enjoy delicious farm-to-table foods.”
Visitors to the 518 Smokehouse website also have the opportunity to submit possible names for the restaurant’s mascot. An image of the mascot is displayed on the site, showing an urbane pig wearing a high-collared tailcoat, with a tuft of tousled hair on its head and the slightest glint of mischief in its eye.
