A new global fusion restaurant plans to open in Columbia’s Vista. Here’s where

A global fusion restaurant is coming to Columbia’s Vista near the University of South Carolina’s basketball arena, according to city documents.

Urban Wok, a small chain that currently has a location in northeast Columbia, is planning a restaurant in the 650 Lincoln development just steps from Colonial Life Arena. There is a city of Columbia building permit for Urban Wok on the door at 910 Devine St. suite 200, around the corner from the Tropical Smoothie Cafe.

The city permit said the Urban Wok space will have 11 tables and 44 chairs, along with a kitchen, walk-in cooler and office space. Construction was under way when a reporter briefly stopped by Thursday morning.

Urban Wok is a fresh stir fry concept where diners can customize their dishes. Customers can choose a base such as jasmine rice or udon noodles, among others then add meats and veggies including chicken, beef, mixed peppers and more. Diners can then choose from a number of flavorful sauces for their meal.

The restaurant says on its website that its signature sauces are gluten-free and vegan and are made fresh daily.

Urban Wok also has a number of appetizers, according to its online menu, including wings, jalapeno fried rice and potstickers, among other items.

This is the second new restaurant in recent months to get a building permit for a storefront in the 650 Lincoln development. A new Starbucks also is under construction there.

Urban Wok’s other Columbia location is at 1033 Roberts Branch Parkway in northeast Columbia.
