A Columbia restaurant space that abruptly closed in December is set to reopen with a new operator and a slightly different name.

Angell Bros. 1801 Grille is eyeing a Feb. 8 opening date, according to its website and posts on its Facebook and Instagram pages. It is located at 700 Lincoln St. suite 200 in the Vista district. The restaurant is just steps from the Colonial Life Arena where the University of South Carolina’s basketball teams play.

“Welcome to Angell Bros. 1801 Grille, the Capital City’s exciting new restaurant concept from brothers Jon and Dan Angell,” recent posts on the restaurant’s website and social media said, noting the Feb. 8 opening. “Please visit us soon!”

Previously, the Burke Hospitality Group, which once had a Harper’s restaurant in Five Points and currently has several restaurants in North Carolina, had operated 1801 Grille in collaboration with USC since 2017. However, in December the space closed, and Aramark, which contracts with USC for food services, announced it would begin partnering with Angell Bros. for the restaurant.

“Jon and Dan Angell have been opening and operating restaurants throughout the Southeast for over 40 years,” Aramark said in a December news release. “Jon currently owns the eight J. Peters locations, along with Rusty Anchor and Catfish Johnny’s on Lake Murray, and Bubba’s Love Shak in Murrells Inlet. Dan is the owner of five Copper River Grill restaurants and The RiffRaff Bar & Grill in Greer, SC.”

Their first partnership restaurant, Angell Bros. Bar + Grill, opened last year in Surfside Beach.

The menu posted on Angel Bros. 1801 Grille’s website shows a range of offerings including a selection of stone-fired pizzas, various gourmet nachos, steaks and prime rib, various pastas and seafood dishes, fried seafood platters, sandwiches and burgers, desserts and more.
