Columbia road near hospital closed after gas line cut, fire department says

Several blocks on a road in a busy area of Richland County were closed after a natural gas line was cut Wednesday, according to the Columbia Fire Department.

The stretch of Marshall Street, from the S.C. 277 interchange to Colonial Drive, was closed, the fire department said at about 11:30 a.m. That’s by Prisma Health Richland hospital.

A utility crew working in the area hit the gas line, fire department spokesman Mike DeSumma told The State.

A few office buildings in the Marshall Street area were evacuated as a precaution, DeSumma said.

No injuries have been reported.

Dominion Energy crews have responded to the scene and are working to repair the gas line, according to DeSumma.

At about 12:15 p.m., the fire department said the repairs had been made and the road was reopened.
