Injury reported in Richland County house fire that’s being investigated, officials say
One person was hurt in a Monday night house fire, the Columbia Fire Department said.
At about 8:30 p.m., firefighters from Columbia as well as members of the Irmo Fire District responded to a burning building on Massey Circle. That’s between Interstate 26 and Broad River Road, in the area along the border of Chapin and Irmo.
Smoke and flames were visible from the outside of the home, according to the fire department.
Firefighters entered the home and quickly got the blaze under control, officials said. Information about how long it took to extinguish the fire was not available.
Everyone in the home was able to escape, but one person was injured and taken to an area hospital, according to the fire department. Further information on that person’s condition was not available.
Information about the extent of the damages, and if the home was considered a total loss was not available.
There was no word on where the fire originated, but the cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said. They did not say if foul play was suspected.
