For seven years, City Limits Barbeque has been something of a moving target, as the popular food truck has done lunch services and pop-up events at locations across the Midlands and beyond.

But now it has set its sights on a new home base.

City Limits, led by pitmaster Robbie Robinson, announced Tuesday night that it is planning a brick-and-mortar location at 1119 Methodist Park Road in West Columbia. That location has been home to other restaurants through the years, including the Secret Garden country buffet and, most recently, Lil Duck Kombucha and Treehouse Cafe, which closed several weeks ago.

The location is just north of Augusta Road and less than a mile west of Interstate 26 and a number of commercial businesses, including Lowe’s Home Improvement.

An opening date has not been set for the City Limits restaurant.

“We’re very excited to finally have a permanent home where everyone can come hang out for a bit and enjoy some BBQ,” Robinson said in a statement. “We had been looking for the right location for a while and we finally found it. The restaurant has a ton of character with huge shade trees, and we think it will be a great spot for everyone to come and create some BBQ memories.”

City Limits has become known for its Texas-style brisket, chopped pork sandwiches, burgers, savory sides and much more. Tuesday’s release said the restaurant, which will have indoor and outdoor dining, will feature “all the favorites that customers have come to love from the food truck.”

While a debut date is still to be determined, Robinson said there likely will be some pop-up services at the restaurant before the proper opening. Diners can sign up for email updates from the restaurant at citylimitsQ.com and follow the restaurant’s progress on the City Limits social media channels.

City Limits has won acclaim for its barbecue through the years. For instance, in 2021 Food Network listed City Limits in its Essential Guide to American Barbecue Traditions. That guide explored the different types of barbecue popular in each region and some of the best places to get them. The list included spots in South Carolina, North Carolina, Kansas City, Memphis, St. Louis and other locales.

Robinson, who drives a pickup truck with a license plate that reads “BRISKET,” said he is ready for the next step.

“It has been one heck of a journey from the food truck to this new restaurant, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our loyal customers,” Robinson said. “We’re excited to continue doing what we love and sharing our passion for great BBQ with everyone at our new home.”
