‘Hidden oasis’: A new tiki bar plans to open in downtown Columbia. Check out where
A taste of the islands is coming to the heart of downtown Columbia.
Urban Tiki, an underground tiki bar and restaurant, is slated to open this month in the bottom floor of The Grand on Main, the boutique bowling alley and restaurant that is located at 1621 Main St.
An exact opening date for Urban Tiki has not yet been announced, but the bar said on its Instagram page that it is coming in July 2023.
“Are you as fired up as we are?!” Urban Tiki wonders in one Instagram post. “Get ready to escape into our hidden oasis coming soon to Main Street!”
In another social media post, Urban Tiki says it “can’t wait for you to try all the fresh tapas options on our Polynesian-inspired menu!” The photographs shared by the restaurant show colorful, tropical drinks and various tiki decor.
Columbia’s Main Street District also has touted the coming of Urban Tiki on its social media channels, suggesting the bar and restaurant will be a spot for a “staycation-night-out.”
Urban Tiki will be the latest offering from LTC Hospitality, which has a roster of restaurants owned by Columbia’s Middleton family.
Among LTC’s businesses are the aforementioned Grand on Main; the tony, upscale Smoked restaurant; the Good Life Cafe vegan restaurant (which recently moved from 1614 Main St. to 1216 Taylor St.); The Venue dueling piano bar; and the Hanabi Hibachi and Sushi restaurant.
The company also has The Robinson Room, a dessert and cocktail lounge, which recently moved from the lower floor of The Grand to 1614 Main St., making way for Urban Tiki to take the underground space at 1621 Main.
