A busy Irmo intersection blocked for a water main repair has reopened, the town’s police department said.

Irmo had to close the intersection of Lake Murray Boulevard and Saint Andrews Road for several days, leading to traffic snarls in the area.

“We are asking that drivers use caution due to metal plates in the roadway,” Irmo Police Lt. Andrea Grinstead said after the intersection reopened Thursday.

The intersection is near the Irmo Station Shopping Center, anchored by a Kroger supermarket, and is a main thoroughfare for residents of the New Friarsgate subdivision. The intersection is about a mile from Exit 102 of Interstate 26.
