Fire guts townhouse overnight in Columbia, officials say
Three people were left without a home after a fire gutted a townhouse Tuesday night, the Columbia Fire Department said.
At about 10 p.m., crews responded to the burning building on South Beltline Boulevard, near the intersection with Rosewood Drive, according to the fire department. That’s by the Midlands Tech Beltline campus, less than a mile from where Devine Street and Garners Ferry Road merge.
When they arrived, firefighters found flames coming from the first floor of a townhouse and spreading quickly to the second floor, the fire department said.
The firefighters established a water supply and brought the fire under control, according to the fire department. Information about how long it took to extinguish the fire was not available.
No injuries were reported, and all of the occupants of the townhouse escaped the burning building, the fire department said.
But the damage to the townhouse was severe enough that three residents were displaced, according to the fire department.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
